Everywhere we turn, it seems that beauty is touted as the most important
commodity one should possess, and it very well may be up near the
top of the list. However, the beauty portrayed in today’s media
is often so skewed that it’s no wonder we are seeing so many
people going to extreme lengths to achieve or preserve physical beauty
that they neglect the true beauty they already possessed the whole
time: their inner beauty, the person that they are deep down. In this
issue of LWP, specifically, we would be amiss in showing you only
the way to enhance your outer beauty; here are some ways to find and
cultivate the beauty that already exists inside of you.
What makes you tick?
What is it that people like about you? If your friends were to
describe you in detail, what would they say? What would your fiancé
say? Then think about why those traits best suit you. Maybe it’s
a talent you have, a personality trait you’ve picked up, or
a characteristic you’ve inherited. Then, think about ways
to enhance those traits. Here are a few suggestions to help you
bring out the beauty you already possess…
Take a Class
Are you a creative type? An art or craft class can hone your talents
as well as teach you to think more creatively and strategically.
A continuing-education class will keep you up to date on career-related
or intellectual topics.
Get Moving
Little else can make you feel so energized as finding something
that gets you moving. Pumping that extra oxygen into the brain and
getting your blood flowing does wonders for your self esteem, your
general outlook on life, as well as making you healthier and more
fit in the process. Be adventurous and try something new, or brush
up on your skills at a sport you haven’t played in years.
Volunteer
A great way to take your thoughts and efforts off of yourself is
to spend an hour or two selflessly helping a local charity or foundation.
Helping others in need often turns the tables on you, teaching you
much more than you end up teaching or helping the person in need;
you often find that you were actually the one in need of a different
outlook or mentality. If you’re a member of a local church,
get involved there by finding a program or position that will best
use your talents or abilities to help in that area.
Take a Break
Just taking time to get rejuvenated is essential in the midst of
hectic wedding plans. Take a walk in a park, go for a leisurely
drive in the country, or sit down to read a good book. By giving
yourself a rest, you’ll have a clearer, more focused, outlook
on things and will be less likely to come unglued when one of the
inevitable wedding “emergencies” occur.
Think about what makes you you, then work to improve those traits
to make you the best bride and wife you can be. The wedding is for
only a day, but the person that you are is for your lifetime; don’t
forget who you are in all the rush of your preparations. Outer beauty
may fade with time, but your inner beauty can be for life.
