The seasons of the year make all the difference
in planning a wedding. The location of your reception and the type
of dress you wear is all determined by seasons and weather.
Most of us plan spring and summer weddings around the outdoors
with the slight breeze of the spring and warmness of the summer;
while fall creates a cool crispness in the air and beautiful shades
of gold, orange and chocolate brown leaves; and winter changes into
a time of warmer shades such as mahogany, charcoal and navy blues.
Have you ever stopped to think about the way these factors affect
your hair and makeup?
SPRING
For fresh, spring skin, you want
to exfoliate to remove any excess dry winter layers. Manicures and
pedicures are crucial, as this is the time for open-toed shoes and
light pastel fingernail polish. Spring-cleaning also applies to your
beauty bag. Throw away any foundation that may be lighter in shade
due to the winter months and invest in a bronzer to help with the
sunny glow that your skin needs. Sheer pinks, beiges, and rosy browns
are pretty for the springtime.
SUMMER
Although summer brings warm, carefree days,
this doesn’t mean that you should be too carefree with your
skin. Heat and harmful UV rays can take a toll on your face. Sun and
warm weather can produce oiliness, which leads to ugly breakouts and
makeup meltdowns. Blotting papers are a good item to have on hand
to use for touch-ups. They allow you to blot any unwanted oiliness
without disturbing your makeup. You should always use oil-free moisturizers
and foundations with a SPF 15; or for a lighter application, try tinted
moisturizers. Look into using waterproof makeup, especialy mascara.
If you have longer hair, consider wearing it up in a loose up-do for
a cooler look.
AUTUMN
Autumn has always been a popular time of year
for weddings. There is crispness in the air, and the leaves are beginning
to change color, which makes for beautiful wedding picture backdrops.
Extend your summer color with a bronzer, and consider new looks with
deeper colors such as mahogany and neutral browns. Use neutral or
nude matte lipstick to help compliment the darker eye shadows. Think
about changing your hair color to a richer shade with some lighter
highlights to compliment your face. The time of year to start considering
richer moisturizers and facial masks is quickly approaching.
WINTER
‘Tis the season for dreary lit days
and drier skin. In the winter months, you want to make sure your skin
is thoroughly moisturized. Be sure to get lots of sleep to minimize
dark circles and puffiness in your eye area. Drink LOTS of water and
moisturize your feet, ankles and knees with a rich moisturizer. Winter
is the time to stop using cooler, brighter makeup shades; you want
to have more of a warm glow. Instead, invest in some warmer shades
with some shine to them. Be careful not to use too much shimmer, and
remember to only use these types of products in one area, maybe a
little sparkle in your lip-gloss or sheen in your blush. Check out
some self-tanning lotions or ask about the tanning treatments at your
local salons. This is a safe way to continue your summer and autumn
glow throughout the winter months.
Regardless
of the season or the time of year, basic makeup principals always
apply. The fundamentals of perfect skin should always be practiced.
A good skin care regimen (Cleanse, Tone, Exfoliate, Moisturize),
drinking lots of water, getting plenty of sleep, and having an overall
healthy life style will help your skin look its best.
