| No matter how much we research,
plan, rethink, and plan again, there is always at least one thing
we would redo if given the opportunity. Maybe you would have opted
for sleeves after you saw the photos, or you may have decided to
go with a great DJ instead of the live band; who knows? After it’s
all said and done, there’s always something we could have
fine-tuned or changed altogether to make our nuptials even more
spectacular.
To help alleviate some common bridal blunders
from your own wedding, here are some “do-overs” sent
in to us by a few of our readers. Learn from their experiences to
lessen your chances of having the same regrets.

“If I knew back then what I know now I would have chosen a
better photographer. I was disappointed with our pictures and did
not get what I asked for: spontaneous, candid shots.” Bridget,
33, St. Matthews |

“I can say that mine would have been to spend more time with
my new husband instead of going to each table to greet guests. Before
I knew it the reception was over and we'd only danced to two songs.
I would have picked a different photographer, too.” Lynn,
32, Hillview |

"The photography! I would have hired a professional, not an
amateur, who had assistant photographers that would photograph traditional
poses and candid moments. The added expense would have been well worth
it." Libby, 27, Pendleton |

“I would have spent more money on flowers. I knew that they
would add to the wedding and reception site but I had no idea how
much. What I had was wonderful but I needed more. Some say less is
more but in this case more would have MORE! I tried to save money
by cutting back on the flowers in my budget guide; big mistake!”

“I would have stopped for a moment to take in the ambience
of the whole event. Everything passes by so quickly that if you don’t
steal away to a quiet corner to take it all in, you’ll just
remember a blur. In the blink of an eye, my ceremony and reception
were over, and I had to rely on the video to see all my planning and
hard work flowing in sync together.” Heather,
24, Prospect |
| |
“I would have not tried to take care of all the planning myself.
I was so afraid that things wouldn’t get done if I gave the
responsibility to someone else, so I did everything. Well, I thought
so anyway. The one thing that I forgot to take care of and regret
the most was getting my wedding videotape. My husband and I had a
beautiful ceremony, but no videotape of it. Don’t get me wrong,
our pictures are great, but I really wish I could see it on tape.
There is so much that you miss or just forget it happens. That day
goes by so quickly, it’s too hard to remember all the details
of your wedding day. Brides, don’t forget to have your wedding
video taped!” Holly, 29, Crestwood |

“I tried to do it all myself, insisting on making every Good
Thing I’d ever seen Martha Stewart do, all the while still finishing
up a semester of college and finals. Looking back, I would have had
much more fun and had better results if I’d simply delegated
things, bought things already made, and taken a more relaxed approach
to the planning and execution of the whole thing. I planned the wedding
for the day after finals because my sister’s graduation was
the next day, so family would only have to fly into town for one event
instead of two. Instead of it being a good idea, I lessened the special-ness
of my wedding and my sister’s graduation by doing it that way.
And we were so busy that week, which was no fun at all.”
