Marriage License Information

One of the simplest and most important steps in getting married is acquiring a marriage license. Typically, you may apply at any county clerk's office in the state where you plan to be married. The county clerk's office is generally located in circuit court or the county probate court.

Most states require a nominal fee to obtain an official marriage license. When you apply, check to see if there is a waiting period before you can get married. In some states it is required to wait a short period of time before tying the knot. There are time constraints on the license once it is issued. If your license should expire, you may reapply
