Favorite Seasonal Flowers for a Louisville Wedding

October 4, 2017

Our friend, Jill Crutcher Doyle, owner and designer at J. Elizabeth Designs, has given us some insight in to the flower options seasonally available and popular for Louisville couples.  Find the perfect flower for your bouquet or centerpiece design with her advice and pictures of her beautiful work.

Louisville, being a southern city, has a long tradition of selecting lush fluffy flowers, no matter the season.

Every spring our city is filled with lush hydrangeas and peonies that the brides just fawn over.  Their fragrance and overall fullness are spectacular in any wedding bouquet or arrangement.  Both flowers range from the soft to rich jewel tones, so that every bride can have their individual style reflected with these flowers.  With such a love for peonies, brides are lucky that we can keep them through the early parts of summer.

When peonies are no longer in season brides love the look of English garden roses.  Their full heads and large petals counts make them the perfect substitution for the peony, but they make a true statement all on their own.

Another favorite for summer is the dahlia.  With wide varieties of colors and sizes, they are the perfect statement flower for summer.  As summer moves into fall, the dahlia is still going strong and we start to see the emergence of the Thistle.  Brides are in love with the soft blue/purple color that is so popular right now.  They give great texture and softness at the same time.

When you think of winter a lot of brides think their choices are limited, but nothing could be further from the truth.  Winter is full of great flowers; from tulips, to roses, to anemones.  They are all the rage for any bride, and their popularity is rising.  When looking for that timeless fluffy flower- the tried an true hydrangea is available all year round!
